Summary

This lesson is an important moment in the onboarding process for the IntelliCoach Leader Academy. It is in fact a personal 30-minute meeting between you (the program participant) and your Mentor Coach. In this meeting, you will both talk about what you want to bring in to the program to make it succeed. We will also confirm that you want to get out of it for yourself and your personal and work stakeholders.

Please note: To take the most value from this exercise, we strongly encourage that you work through lessons 1.1 to 1.3 first, before you have your 1-1 conversation with your Mentor Coach.

The conversation should typically happen no later than 1-2 weeks before session ‘1.6 The journey is about to begin’.

1. The purpose of the 30-minute meeting with your Mentor Coach

This lesson is an important step in our Module ‘Prepare to Become a Coach’: You meet your Mentor Coach 1-1 for 30 minutes BEFORE the actual program starts. We call it the ‘Our Agreement’ meeting.

In this lesson here, we describe the purpose of this meeting and what will happen in it! The meeting has 3 purposes, which we will outline below.

1. We document our commitment and mindset for the journey ahead (see lessons 1.1 and 1.3)

The first prerequisite is that you have completed lessons 1.1 and 1.3 where you intentionally think about your own commitment and growth mindset. You should have uploaded or sent your commitment sheet to your Mentor Coach.

In the ‘Our Agreement’ meeting, we will spend around 10 minutes reviewing your statement of commitment.

Your Mentor Coach will also sign the document before the program starts and store it for reference in your Private Files section.

2. We confirm your business case for joining the program (lesson 1.2)

The second prerequisite for this lesson is that you have spent some time thinking through your business case for attending the course (lesson 1.2). Print the sheet of that lesson, fill it out and then upload or send it to your mentor coach ahead of the ‘Our Agreement’ meeting.

You should go into the ‘Our Agreement’ meeting with 15 likely benefits for yourself + 15 likely benefits for others.

As for the benefits for others, we recommend that you write it from the perspective of the beneficiary, i.e. ‘my partner will see me do X’ or ‘my boss will notice that I…’

We will spend around 10 minutes to talk through your business case. We will file it together for reference.

3. Final question and Signing the Agreement!

Lastly, we invite you to make the final decision about whether the program is a good fit for you and whether you want to go ahead. If we go ahead, we will do a virtual handshake and it is time to celebrate!

Once you agree to go ahead, IntelliCoach will send a contract to you for your eSignature, followed by the invoice. Once payment is received, you will be onboarded and upgraded to Full Member!

2. Summary

The agreement we make as part of this lesson is central to success of the journey ahead.

It is testament to our belief that participants of the program will achieve the most benefit from their time and financial investment if they:

  • intentionally think about what it means to commit to such an intense course!
  • intentionally and with great detail document their own business case beforehand.

It also documents in a powerful way how we envision Personal Leadership as part of the Coaching Learning journey. It is our way of living the coaching mindset with a program-wide ‘coaching agreement’.

Lastly, we offer this concept as an idea for our coaches as well, so they can become more intentional in co-creating with their clients a strong commitment and business case before a significant coaching journey starts.

3. How do you prepare for the meeting?

This meeting is set up for success if you:

  • have completed complimentary lessons 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3
  • have given the filled-out templates for lessons 1.1 and 1.2 to your mentor coach (either upload to the ‘My Files’ section under ‘My Membership’, if you already have access or simply send via email to your Mentor Coach)

How do you know when the meeting happens?

A few days after you received access to the IntelliCoach Learning System as an Explorer, IntelliCoach will approach you via email, so you can agree on a suitable time/date!

The ‘Our Agreement’ meeting should happen at least 1-2 week before the program starts!
